In Mid March everything went crazy. A few weeks before Coronavirus cases started going crazy in the United States. Then it got to Utah. Mid March the governor shut down school for 2 weeks. The announcement came on a Friday. And schools were to be shut down for 2 weeks. The kids began doing online school from home. They were able to get materials from their teachers and continue learning. I still had to go to work. We began packaging breakfast and lunch for families to come and pick up. It was crazy!!
We were all supposed to be in quarantine at home unless we had essential things to go and do or buy. All dine in restaurants were closed to patrons being inside. The temples were closed. Church was cancelled. If you did go anywhere you were supposed to wear a mask and santitize your hands. I didn't allow the kids to go anywhere. They would go pick up lunch and come home. They couldn't go to the store or anywhere. All sorts of social distancing guidelines came out. There were new rules of things that you could and couldn't do.
General Conference time rolled around. Things were going to be different. The prophet and speakers in each session met in a small auditorium on temple square. They each sat 6 feet apart. There was no audience and everyone had to watch via tv or internet.
It was decided in April that school would be cancelled for the rest of the year. The kids would have to continue doing homeschool. The teachers did such a great job recording lessons for the kids and having zoom meetings so they could all see each other and talk. They made a super crappy situation as fun as possible.
In April there was also an all faith fast for the pandemic. Everyone was coming together to pray for help with all of this.
It was getting hard to keep the kids motivated, happy, and entertained. We did a lot of crafty stuff and we did a lot of puzzles!
The high school had to get creative with tryouts. Drill tryouts were virtual. The girls had to learn a dance and make a video of themselves performing and doing other technique things. They sent it in for judging. Macie got an email saying that she had made drill team once again! I am so proud of her and all of her hard work!
On May 20th we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary! Luckily covid numbers in our area weren't out of control and we were able to go to St. George for the weekend to celebrate. We had a wonderful time together! I can't believe its been 20 years!!!
When school was starting to wind down McKenna got an in person visit from Mrs. King. She was so happy! She loved having her as a teacher and was so sad to miss out on months of in person time. Callie was able to go and see Mrs. Monroe. She loved having her as a teacher as well. I feel so bad that school had to end the way it did. The elementary didn't get to have their end of school program. Spring sports at the highschool were cancelled. Nobody got to have year book signing parties. Graduation ceremonies were outside and completely different than before. It has been a crazy few months!
As I write this now in July---Covid is still happening! Millard county actually had a large spike about a month ago. Things are still not normal. We went to church one week and then it was cancelled again. The 4th of July parade was cancelled. I'll sure be glad when things get back to normal! I guess we'll see what comes in the fall!
